Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney will face a vote of no-confidence over the Katherine Zappone special envoy controversy.

Sinn Fein have said they will table a motion of no confidence in the Minister next week.

Matt Carthy, Sinn Fein TD for Monaghan, told RTE's Morning Ireland that Taoiseach Micheal Martin "failed to do his job and hold a minister, who has been engaged in a blatant act of cronyism, to account".

"We have no option but to table this motion and to hold a government minister to account."

Mr Martin said he expects Fianna Fail TDs to back Minister Coveney on the no-confidence vote.

However, Fianna Fail TD John McGuinness has already said he "doesn't know yet" whether he will vote alongside the Government.

When it was put to Matt Carthy that the Government will most likely have the numbers to face down the vote, he said: "Let’s see where the numbers fall next week."
