Sunday was World Mental Health Day. In the UK 12 men commit suicide each day; Suicide is the leading cause of death in men under the age of 45. Do we know the statistics in Ireland? We know that there is a crisis emerging in mental health services in Ireland, (as in the UK), and the under provision of adequate funds and staff will make the lives of our people and sadly our young people vulnerable to harm, anxiety, depression and suicide. The Pandemic called COVID-19 has created its own additional demands to a service that is so under-funded.
