A SOCIALITE is to appear at Dublin District Court this morning to be charged with conspiracy to launder the proceeds of drug trafficking.

Francis Fennell was arrested by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau at Dublin Airport yesterday after landing on a flight from Lithuania.

Fennell was previously named in New Zealand's High Court as the organiser of a global drugs ring.

He has been accused of sending the proceeds of the sale of cocaine in Australia and New Zealand back to Ireland.

On that occasion, suspects were accused of stashing cocaine in their backpacks before flying to the other side of the world.
