In custody Eight arrested for Covid-19 rule breaches and public order incidents on O'Connell St in Dublin

Eight people have been arrested in Dublin city centre today in relation to public order incidents and breaching public health restrictions.
Five men and one woman were arrested this afternoon for breaches of public health regulations as per the Health Act 1947 (Section 31A – Temporary Restrictions), which restricts individuals organising events outdoors and travel outside the home except without reasonable excuse.
Additionally, two men were arrested in relation to public order incidents.
These arrests are suspected to be related to a planned anti-lockdown protest that took place on O’Connell Street this afternoon.
Gardaí confirmed that officers “implemented a policing plan” around the scheduled protest that was due to take place around 2pm at the Spire, with a number of uniformed officers and garda vehicles present at the scene.
