An investigation is underway into a suspected hoax call to Gardai about an ‘armed incident’ on Monday evening, the force confirmed.

Gardai had received a call about the incident which was said to have been underway in an area of Letterkenny in Donegal.

Following the searches it was soon established that the incident described in the call to Gardai was not underway.

‘A number of locations in Letterkenny were searched this evening by Gardaí following reports of an armed incident.

‘Gardaí are now investigating the matter as a hoax call. Enquiries are ongoing.’
