Vincent Browne slams Mary Lou McDonald over Varadkar leak investigation

Vincent Browne has hit out at Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald after the Garda inquiry into the leaking of a confidential document by Tanaiste Leo Varadkar was upgraded to a formal investigation.
The broadcaster rounded on Ms McDonald for apparent hypocrisy as she mounts pressure on Mr Varadkar to resign for sending a copy of the 2019 doctors’ pay deal to Dr Maitui O Tuathail.
The deal was agreed between the state and the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO), but then-Taoiseach Mr Varadkar sent a copy of the agreement to his friend Dr O Tuathail, who was then head of rival doctors’ group the National Association of General Practitioners (NAGP).
The gardai are now formally investigating the leak, several months after the disclosure first came to light in October, with Ms McDonald on Tuesday calling for Mr Varadkar’s resignation.
She also wrote to Taoiseach Micheal Martin to request a meeting about the leak, which he rejected, describing it as a tactic.
Mr Browne on Monday criticised Ms McDonald for not demanding the resignation of former Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams during the PSNI’s investigation into the murder of Jean McConville.
‘Mary Lou wants Leo Varadkar sacked because the Gardai are investigating him re a crime: the leaking of a confidential documenting document,’ he tweeted.
‘Why did she not demand Gerry Adams be sacked when the PSNI were investigating him re a crime: Jean McConville’s murder?’
Mr Adams was arrested and question over the murder in 2014 and has categorically denied any involvement in the death of Jean Mc Conville.
