Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has described comments by the Fine Gael leader Leo Varadkar about her party’s public meeting in Cork as “a hysterical overreaction”.The party said it plans to have a series of public meetings over the next two weeks to update supporters about their efforts to form a government.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said the rallies are “designed to be the next phase in Sinn Féin’s campaign of intimidation and bullying”.

Speaking before the meeting tonight, which was attended by close to 1,000 people, Ms McDonald said: “Mr Varadkar’s comments were over the top and were a demonstration by him and by a political establishment who are desperately reaching for something to stop an unstoppable change in Irish politics.”

Ms McDonald rejected suggestions that the meeting was about whipping up support for Sinn Féin.

She said it was about continuing a conversation, which she began with the electorate during the election.

Ms McDonald said she saw no reason why the conversation with the electorate could not continue after the election and she said the attitude displayed by Mr Varadkar was the very thing which built cynicism in politics.

Earlier, Mr Varadkar said plans by Sinn Féin to hold rallies across the country are “an unwelcome development”.

Mr Varadkar said the rallies are “designed to be the next phase in Sinn Féin’s campaign of intimidation and bullying”.

He added: “I wouldn’t be surprised if their next step is to take to the streets.”

Speaking at an event in Dublin today, Mr Varadkar said: “It shows once again this is not a normal party.”

The Sinn Féin rally was attended by nearly 1000 people

Sinn Féin is planning five rallies, with the first in Cork toinght and the others in Dublin, Galway, Cavan and Newry.

Sinn Féin’s finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty described Mr Varadkar’s comments as “hysterics”.

Mr Doherty said they were just public meetings and involved elected representatives going out to meet people who voted for them.

He said the difference between them and other political parties was that when the election was over, they did not close the doors of Government Buildings.

He said he very much welcomed that Leo Varadkar and Micheál Martin had given “huge publicity” to their meetings.

“The hysterics from Leo and Micheál are just that, nothing but hysterics” and he said they feared change.

Mr Doherty said they were not aware of any orchestrated Sinn Féin member bullying of people online and if there was, they would deal with it.

Mr Doherty also said they were intensifying detailed discussions with other parties and independents this week and they had engaged this morning with the Green Party on detailed policy issues.

Asked about the difference between Sinn Féin and the Green Party on carbon tax, he said they were opposed to the tax because the alternatives were not there. But he said they both were taking the climate agenda very seriously.

Yesterday, Sinn Féin’s deputy leader Michelle O’Neill said the party will set out its stall at the rallies and “people will have an opportunity to come along, those who support us and those who don’t”.

Fred is back:  Peter the Plucked Chlorine Chicken has an Agenda but I wonder what other sources are behind him.  We live now in very dark times and I am surprised that not one Irish Journalist has entered the arena and stated with full clarity that Sinn Fein have arrived on the Political Stage through the Democratic process.  I listened to John Mooney on the radio by accident last Sunday morning and to my disgust Mooney (Sunday Times) went on to say that the IRA are still active and are involved in Criminality – FAKE News.  The same John Mooney went to the Charlton Tribunal and behaved like a dummy in a shop window.  Why?  Because it is alleged his editor called him along with another, who I will not mention and told him “Say Fucking Nothing in relation to Maurice McCabe.  Act like the three monkeys.  See Nothing.  Hear Nothing and Do Nothing”.   Now Mooney is back and it is a miracle he has his voice back also.  Where is he but yes, throwing the dirt at Sinn Fein.  Let me quote Judge Peter Charlton.  I can stand to be corrected on this.  “I have never heard as many lies told in one room in my legal career”.  He was talking about the Irish sheep Journalists who got amnesia in relation to an innocent copper who told the Truth and won against Garda HQ and mainstream Irish journalism, not forgetting the Peter Pan of Irish Politics.  Crime is all over Ireland.  Drugs are in every pub.  As one young woman told me some weeks ago – it is now easier to get a line of coke in a pub in Dublin than to order a drink.

Where do we go from here?   Let’s start basic:  The Irish people voted for change; the English bigot Plucked Chlorine Chicken has accused the people of being Gangsters.  This will back-fire and this is welcome because we know now that Sinn Fein are up against the Cosy Cartel called the Establishment (FF+FG).  There is a large gathering at Croke Park today.  I believe it is Julie and her PR team from Enterprise Ireland and they will all be complementing each other as to how they saved the Irish economy.  It is the gathering of the elites of Ireland.  Let me tell you something – there are more scandals in Enterprise Ireland which have been covered up for years.  This is very another day.  Julie Lexus timed her departure very well before Brexit really hit like a full hurricane.

Back to Sinn Fein, the people of Cork came out in their thousands and rightly gave Mary Lou a standing ovation.  I think this answers ALL THE BIGOTS; ALL THE HIDDEN HATERS; AND ALL THE SHADOWY FIGURES IN THE IRISH ESTABLISHMENT WHO WILL GO TO ANY LENGTHS TO KEEP SINN FEIN AND THE PEOPLE WHO WANT CHANGE OUT OF GOVERNMENT.  FRED
